Pretty Gritty

I tried out a side braid today but I fear my hair is just a bit too thick to achieve the 'pretty gritty' look I desired, as seen at Alexander Wang.

Tonight I'm going for Tea and Wii - a dinner party followed by a Wii Olympics tournament to burn off some calories. What are your plans?

I've come over all Blair Waldorf today! I've been feeling so blue lately, with working non-stop, trying to find a new flat, missing my boyfriend (he's away on a uni placement) and the awful weather we've been having this week but playing dress up has been one of the few things that has cheered me up a bit.

I bought these shoes about three years ago in the Topshop winter sale and they've lain unworn at the back of my wardrobe ever since. I found them while cleaning the other day, along with a blue suede pair I bought at the same time, and have been making a conscious effort to re-introduce them to the outside world.

Over the past week I've been to not one, but two balls! The first was a Charity Masquerade Ball last Wednesday. I was only invited the day before, as someone else couldn't make it at the last minute, so I didn't have time to buy a new dress. I had to make do with a green Topshop prom dress and a borrowed feather mask (which I wore for about three minutes before the feathers became unbearably tickly).

I was slightly more prepared for the second ball, but I will tell you more about that when I post the pictures from it!

I promise that I do actually smile in real life! I'm so terrible in front of the camera, I usually just pull ridiculous faces or look rather angry.

Today, I blow-dried and curled my hair for the first time in ages. I've become rather lazy and usually just 'wash and go' leaving my hair in it's naturally wavy state.

I've gone pony-themed with my jewellery today. I love anything to do with horses, and I used to have my own a few years ago. Unfortunately, I had to give her up when I came to University but hopefully some day soon I will have the time (and money) to have a horse again.

The necklace was a 21st birthday gift from my flatmate and my mum bought me the earrings from Topshop ages ago.

Please excuse my death stare in the above photo - I just cannot seem to smile in pictures, no matter what. I found this vintage bow print jacket in my wardrobe when I went home at Christmas and can't believe I managed to forget all about it. It's so lovely and slouchy and perfect for cinching in with a waist belt.

Tonight my boyfriend and I are ordering some pizza then watching Sherlock Holmes. I'm really excited to see it, actually, because I absolutely adore Robert Downey Jr. Did anyone else watch Ally McBeal as religiously as I did? I was quite young when it was first on TV and since it was on past my bedtime I'd have to watch it in the dark with the volume right down so my parents wouldn't hear.

Larry, played by Robert Downey Jr, was my dream man back then. I just thought he was amazing.

I think Larry was supposed to marry Ally in the end, but Robert Downey Jr got fired! After he left, I would watch every episode thinking "This is it, this is the one where Larry comes back!" and I also wished for my very own Snowman in the fridge. Rather sad, I know, but my love for Larry still runs strong, so for that reason alone I am very much looking forward to Sherlock Holmes tonight...
